July/August 2010 - STEVE LENTON AND MIA NILSSON PRESENT PET A TETE  - A bespoke series of illustrations featuring animals and local landmarks by illustrators Steven Lenton and Mia Nilsson , whose impressive list of clients and projects include illustration and animation for BBC, Vanity Fair, Tatler, Esquire and the Guardian.
















June 2010 - JOHN DAVIS - Local photographer John Davis’ amazing work includes portraits of the greatest athletes of our time along with the iconic Billy Elliot musical poster.  His clients include Gillette, Volvo, Orange and Adidas.









May 2010 - CLARE BEATON - Local artist Clare Beaton is the illustrator of more than forty books for children.  Her whimsical work features fabric art incorporating buttons, beads, wire, sequins, embroidery and numerous other found and recycled materials.













February 2010 - KEREN LUCHTENSTEIN - Keren Luchtenstein is an accomplished artist whose photorealist paintings of shoes, haberdashery and other subjects is highly sought after by collectors such as Paul Smith.  She has been exhibited by some of the leading galleries of the world, including in Tokyo and Shoreditch this past year.

OCTOBER 2010 - MARK ENTWISLE -  Romantic. Calming. Pleasing.  Mark Entwisle's paintings invite you in, they ask you gently to be part of them, to allow them to take you to a tranquil journey through lights, shades and colours.

Mark's eye is able to capture the everyday life in a way that most can't. The day to day objects take a different light through his eyes. They become special and interesting maintening that simple qualities that make them so appealing in the first place.

Join us in this journey through light and shades.


The Haberdashery is very honoured to exhibit eight of Mark's favourite pieces.

NOVEMBER 2010 - TRANSFORMATION - DRAWINGS BY ADRIAN NEIL - Adrian studied at the Royal College of Art, and has exhibited in London, Europe and New York.

 

He has also taught art & design and life-drawing at institutions including the Tate Gallery, the V&A, RADA, and Central St. Martin's, and is currently Associate Lecturer at Chelsea School of Art.

 

The Haberdashery is proud to exhibit some of Adrian's favourite drawings.

JANUARY 2011 - ANNE-MARIE BUTLIN - Anne-Marie's inspiration for her paintings comes from the things she loves; everyday objects, flowers, patterns, local landscapes. Colours are subtle, and close tones give the paintings a feeling of quiet and calm.


Anne-Marie Butlin has exhibited widely for the past 25 years in places such as the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, The Royal Watercolour Society, The Affordable Art Fair and Chelsea Art Fair.

The Haberdashery is very proud to exhibit some of Anne-Marie's favourite works.

DECEMBER 2010 - BELLE & BOO OUT TO PLAY - Belle & Boo heads up a collection of artworks from the imagination of illustrator Mandy Sutcliffe.


Belle & Boo are two of Mandy’s favourite characters. Belle with her bobbed hair, bright eyes and wearing vintage clothing, is insistently curious about the world around her, and based on elements of Mandy as a child.


With her magical imagination Mandy was always surrounded by friends, and together they fulfilled many a daydream. So when creating Belle she gave her Boo - Belle’s adorable bunny rabbit companion and confidant.


A contemporary twist on vintage charm.

FEBRUARY 2011 - HANNAH GRIFFITHS - Hannah is a local mosaic artist and painter; she makes bespoke mosaics for public and private clients.  She has undertaken diverse commissions including wall art for colleges and hospitals, and numerous domestic commissions for floors, kitchens, tables, mirrors etc. Hannah is inspired by diverse subject matter including African textiles, Moroccan pattern, Italian church floors, the crown jewels and hot red chilli peppers, and thrives on each new piece of work being unique. 

 

Hannah’s passion lies in creating works of art which in some way represent the things she finds beautiful.  The series of still life oils and watercolours and mosaics to be shown at The Haberdashery are small, intimate paintings of fruit: some standing alone, some placed on beautiful vintage china.  These small works are jewel-like and precious.

APRIL 2011 - CHRISTIN WITTAN PHOTOGRAPHY


In this digital world we are surrounded by Photoshop-perfect images. Christin’s photos are not about perfection.  They are original takes of everyday life, everyday life in a raw and pure state.


The Haberdashery is excited to exhibit Christin's pictures of Crouch End and of her travels. 

MAY 2011 - VIRGINIA JACKSON ETCHINGS


We are delighted to exhibit the jewel-like etchings of Virginia Jackson, in the show ‘From Christchurch to Crouch End’.


All profits donated to the New Zealand Earthquake Fund.

JUNE 2011-  THROUGH THE EYE OF A NEEDLE

 

Fabulous etchings by local artist Sarah Garvey, who studied at Saint Martins and Camberwell, and is influenced by Whistler, John Virtue, Winslow Homer, Ken Howard and many more. 


Sarah has just been asked to join a group of established artists called printmakers-inc.co.uk, and a piece of her work was recently featured in the latest edition of the Encyclopedia of Watercolour Techniques.

AUGUST 2011-  SEEKING SPACE

 

Seeking Space features work inspired by the quiet spaces of London, Scotland , Wales and Spain visited by Avril Macdonald recently.


Amongst the works are etchings and monoprints featuring landscapes and cityscapes of North London's East Finchley, Crouch End, Muswell Hill and Hampstead.


There are also seascapes and scenes of island life in and around North Uist in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland and village scenes from the Alpujarras in Southern Spain.

The Haberdashery features the works of Matthew Theobald (www.matthewtheobald.co.uk) in our successful monthly exhibits of talented local artists.  Matthew is interested in landscape and its movement and energy.

FEBRUARY 2012 - MACK’S ART


80 original sketches and paintings by local prodigy Mackenzie Fulton.  In her own words:

My name is Mackenzie Fulton , I'm 13 and live in Tottenham. I go to school at Park View just down the road from me. I work at Of Special Interest every Saturday. I have two cats, Mimmy and Marmalade, and I also have a dog named James. Mimmy, Marmalade, James and other cats and dogs I see in the park inspire me a lot for all my drawings. I have also just started to draw landscapes of London and Alexandra Palace. I've also been sketching the clock tower in Crouch End. My hobbies are obviously sketching and I have also been playing the violin for about four years.

AUGUST 2012 screenprints by Particle Press and the Thousand Paper Cranes


In their words:

Inspired by nature and our Scottish roots, we are very enthusiastic about screen printing and making things. We are a husband and wife team, working together in Crouch End. After making 1000 paper cranes for our wedding and spending hours folding, the paper crane has become our symbol for hard work, patience and our love for making things!

november 2012 BREWING IDEAS BY THOMAS AND SARKAR


An exhibition of new work by illustrators Juliet Thomas & Jhinuk Sarkar.

Juliet lives in Crouch End and in this exhibition she has taken inspiration from local Crouch End life, film & music.

Jhinuk is based in Walthamstow and has used food as the main source of ideas for this selection of work. She has used paint, pencils, collage and inks.

DECEMBER 2012 KERRY LEYTON


  1. Seventy Tree was established in 2010 by illustrator Kerry Layton. Kerry grew up in Devon, but moved with her family to Crouch End in 2011. Her love for geometrics, characterful creatures and colour is strongly represented in her work. She creates whimsical imagery that appeals to both adults and children alike.

JANUARY 2013 THE SECRET WORLD OF CATS  BY JAMIE MALONE


In Jamie's words: My illustrations are characterised by the use of friendly imagery, often inspired by nature and all of its complexities. I move across a variety of different media in my work, from hand-craft, painting, through to digital imagery.Having fun with my creations is paramount to what I consider to be a successful illustration; I try to ensure that all of my work holds a sense of charm, and is accessible to all. I hope you enjoy!

AUG/SEP 2013 ARTWORK + ILLUSTRATIONS BY ABIGAIL LINGFORD


A trained scientific and natural history illustrator, Abigail has spent several years working in Greece, with the environmental NGO Archipelagos, producing accurate species illustrations for use in identification guides and educational material. Since returning to her native North London she has worked on fiction books and editorial work including a cover image produced for Nature journal.
